everyone has a story, make sure it’s remembered

Due to the commonality of Alzheimer’s Disease, most people have a person they will be running for. Your Why.

Share a story or multiple stories about the people you call your Why. Feel free to include a picture. We will take these stories and display them all around the race course so others can remember your Why.

they can’t remember so we remember for them

My Why

The person I will be running for, the inspiration of this event, and My Why is my poppop, Roger Flowers.

I remember throughout my childhood I’d spend summer days at my nana and poppops house. And out of all the amazing things that nana and poppop’s house offered, my favorite was the tire swing. The tire swing my poppop made for my brother and I was a rope with a real tire on it hanging between two large trees. In order to ride the tire swing you had to pay a fee, tree bark pulled right off the tire swing’s infrastructure. After you paid you could swing; my poppop would pull you far back while singing a song before swinging you so high and far. I realize I took this experience for granted and now I would give anything to swing on the tire swing with my poppop again.

My Why

I will be running for the countless families that have been affected by this disease.

Personally, I have not felt the effects of any of my family members who have had this disease but my late great-grandpa was diagnosed with it. He died a couple of years before I was born after fighting Alzheimer's for years. I would’ve liked to have met him, my mom has told me stories of the great man he was. My Why is so that people like me get to know those family members who were gone too soon, and so that not only the people suffering from Alzheimer's but the families don’t have to suffer like so many people have.
